Chapter 9 - The Restraining Order

The next morning, I stood before a family court judge with Sarah right by my side.

The judge reviewed the police report, the shattered window evidence, and the nanny cam footage.

Liam was not present; he was currently sitting in a holding cell at the county jail.

“Given the violent outburst and the threat to a newborn child, I am granting a temporary restraining order,” the judge declared.

“Mr. Sterling must remain at least five hundred feet away from you, your son, and your residence.”

Sarah requested that the order also extend to Beatrice, citing her documented history of harassment.

The judge agreed without hesitation, stamping the official legal documents with a loud thud.

I walked out of the courthouse holding the papers that finally guaranteed my absolute safety.

Sarah turned to me, her eyes gleaming with professional satisfaction.

“We have them completely cornered, Nora,” she said confidently.

“Now we file the official divorce papers and hit them where it hurts the most.”

As we walked to our cars, Sarah’s private investigator sent her a massive encrypted file.

Sarah opened the document on her tablet, her jaw completely dropping in shock.

“Nora, you need to look at this right now,” she gasped, handing me the screen.

It was a detailed financial background check on the entire Sterling family.

Beatrice didn't have a massive trust fund or a sprawling corporate empire.

Her late husband had left her with millions of dollars in hidden gambling debts.

They were completely broke, heavily mortgaged, and drowning in massive unpaid loans.

They had faked their entire wealthy lifestyle for years to maintain their social status.

And I was the only thing keeping them from total financial ruin.
