Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

That evening, a heavy thunderstorm rolled through the city, shaking the trees outside my window.
I had just put Leo down for the night when the new security alarm suddenly chimed.
Someone was aggressively yanking on the handle of the locked front door.
I pulled up the live camera feed on my tablet and saw Liam standing on the porch, soaking wet.
He was furiously pounding his fists against the heavy oak wood, screaming my name into the rain.
“Nora, open this door right now!” he yelled, looking completely deranged.
I did not open the door; instead, I pressed the two-way intercom button on the app.
“You need to step off my property immediately, Liam, or I am calling the police,” I warned.
He looked up at the glowing camera lens, his face twisted in pure rage.
“You canceled my credit cards, you psycho!” he screamed, kicking the bottom of the door.
“My mother is sitting in a cheap motel lobby because we cannot afford a room!”
“That sounds like a personal problem, not a Nora problem,” I replied coldly.
“You have five seconds to leave before the cops arrive.”
He didn't leave; he grabbed a heavy ceramic planter from the porch and threw it directly at the window.
The shatterproof glass cracked loudly but did not break.
I hit the panic button on my security app, instantly dispatching local law enforcement to my address.
I stood in the dark hallway, watching the camera feed as red and blue lights illuminated the driveway.
Two armed officers tackled Liam to the wet grass, violently pressing his face into the mud.
He screamed and cried, begging them to let him go because he was the homeowner.
The officers ignored him, slapping cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

I watched the man I married get shoved into the back of a police cruiser.
I did not feel a single ounce of pity for him.
