Chapter 16 - The New Portrait

I hired a completely different, incredibly talented photographer to come to my home the following week.
I wore a beautiful, vibrant red dress that made me feel powerful, confident, and entirely alive.
Leo was dressed in a tiny, adorable tuxedo that perfectly matched my elegant outfit.
We stood right in front of the grand fireplace, smiling brightly for the flashing camera lens.
There was no one barking cruel orders, no one criticizing my posture, and no one making me feel small.
It was just a mother and her perfect son, completely happy and entirely in love with their peaceful life.
When the massive, framed canvas arrived a few days later, I hung it dead center in the living room.
It was a beautiful, defiant statement of my total victory and my unyielding strength.
Every time I walked past it, I was reminded of the exact moment I found my powerful voice.
I had stepped out of their toxic shadow and completely stepped into my brilliant, blinding light.
I invited my closest friends over for a massive dinner party to celebrate my brand new beginning.
The house was filled with loud laughter, genuine love, and absolutely zero judgment.

I looked around the room at my true, chosen family, feeling incredibly blessed.
I had lost a terrible husband, but I had gained an entirely beautiful, authentic life.
