Chapter 14 - The Apology Tour

Despite the massive restraining order, Liam tried to contact me through a third-party mediator.
He requested a supervised, heavily monitored sit-down meeting at Sarah’s law office.
Against my better judgment, I agreed, solely because I wanted to look him in the eye one last time.
When he walked into the room, he looked completely broken and absolutely defeated.
He immediately dropped to his knees on the carpet, tears streaming down his pathetic face.
“Nora, I am so deeply sorry for everything,” he sobbed, reaching out his shaking hands.
“My mother ruined my mind, she pressured me into everything, please just give me one more chance.”
I sat perfectly still, my expression completely blank and entirely devoid of any sympathy.
“You are a thirty-year-old man, Liam, you made your own cruel choices,” I replied softly.
“You chose to let her abuse me, you chose to steal, and you chose to try and ruin my son’s home.”
“I was desperate!” he cried out, completely ignoring taking any real accountability.
“You were a coward,” I corrected him sharply, my voice cutting through his fake tears like a knife.
“A real man protects his wife and his child, but you only ever protected yourself.”
I stood up, signaling to Sarah that this entirely useless meeting was officially over.
“I will see you at the final sentencing hearing, Liam.”

I walked out of the room without looking back, completely leaving him sobbing on the floor.
He was finally a ghost, completely dead to me and entirely erased from my bright future.
