Chapter 5 - Setting the Trap

The next morning, I woke up with a singular, terrifying focus burning in my chest.

I met Gabriel down in the estate’s underground command center, surrounded by elite hackers and financial analysts.

“Richard confidently thinks you have absolutely nothing, which is his biggest strategic weakness,” Gabriel explained, pulling up Mitchell Industries’ private financial records.

Richard’s firm was heavily leveraged, desperately relying on illegal offshore shell companies to hide massive amounts of toxic corporate debt.

His beautiful assistant, the woman he was sleeping with, was the primary person laundering the dirty money.

“We have the digital proof, but we need to bait him into making a very public mistake,” I said, analyzing the complex data on the screen.

I recorded a short, tearful video of myself, pretending to be terrified and hiding in a cheap, rundown motel.

I begged Richard for forgiveness on the camera, playing perfectly into his massive, narcissistic ego.

We sent the pathetic video from a highly encrypted IP address that intentionally traced back to a secluded address in New Jersey.

“He will not send the police to that location,” I predicted, knowing my husband’s monstrous, controlling nature all too well.

“He will send his own private mercenaries to handle me quietly so he can control the narrative.”

Gabriel smiled grimly, tapping a few keys on his keyboard to finalize the digital trap.

The bait was set, and the monster was hungry.
