Chapter 2 - The Truth

I sat shaking in the back of a blacked-out, heavily armored SUV that had been waiting in the alleyway.

Gabriel sat across from me, handing me a bottle of chilled water and a soft ice pack for my bruised cheek.

“Who are you, really?” I demanded, my voice trembling with a chaotic mixture of intense fear and adrenaline.

“I am a sworn protector of the Blackstone estate,” Gabriel answered simply, his posture rigid and disciplined.

He explained that my mother had not died in a random, tragic car crash when I was a small child.

She was intentionally assassinated to sever the bloodline of one of the wealthiest, most covert syndicates in the world.

The Blackstone family controlled global assets that made Richard’s corporate firm look like a child’s piggy bank.

“Richard did not meet you by accident at that charity gala, Sarah,” Gabriel revealed, sliding a thick, classified file across the leather seat.

“He was hired by a rival financial faction to marry you, monitor your movements, and ensure you never claimed your rightful inheritance.”

My breath caught painfully in my throat as I flipped through the terrifying pages.

There were high-resolution photos of Richard receiving massive offshore wire transfers dating back to our very first date.

My entire marriage, my entire adult life, was a meticulously crafted, incredibly expensive lie.

I looked down at my stomach, realizing that my husband had only wanted me for control, not for love.

A tear fell onto the manila folder, but it was quickly replaced by a sudden, violent surge of pure anger.

I was not just a naive, pregnant housewife who could be discarded and abused.

I was a Blackstone.
