I stood completely frozen, overwhelmed by the sight of the loving family I thought I never had.
Arthur explained that he had watched me from afar for decades, forbidden to make direct contact in order to keep me hidden and safe.
But Richard’s arrogant investigation into the Blackstone name had officially triggered all of their top-tier security protocols.
“Richard got overly greedy,” Arthur said, lowering himself into a high-backed leather chair by the roaring fireplace.
“He was no longer satisfied with his secret payoff; he wanted to force you to sign away your birthright to him before disposing of you.”
I felt a sickening, violent lurch in my stomach at the terrifying phrase "disposing of you."

“We are going to completely destroy him, Sarah,” Arthur promised, his gray eyes flashing with lethal intent.
“But you must be the one to personally pull the trigger on his precious empire.”
I looked at my grandfather, feeling a deep, ancestral strength replacing my fear.
“Tell me exactly what I need to do,” I replied, my voice completely devoid of any hesitation.
Gabriel stepped forward, unrolling a massive architectural blueprint of Richard’s corporate headquarters.
