Chapter 16 - The Arrest

The federal agents forcefully pinned Richard to the carpet, loudly reading him his Miranda rights.

I watched him thrash and cry uncontrollably, a pathetic, broken shell of the arrogant man who had slapped me in a restaurant just weeks ago.

He looked up at me from the floor, his tear-filled eyes pleading for a mercy he had never once shown me.

“Sarah, please help me! I am the father of your child!” he begged pathetically, coughing up blood.

I walked over to him, looking down at his groveling, miserable form with absolute disgust.

“My beautiful daughter has no father,” I stated firmly, ensuring he heard every word.

“And you have absolutely no family left.”

I turned my back on him entirely and walked out of the boardroom without a single backward glance.

The pathetic sound of his desperate, loud sobbing faded away as the elevator doors safely closed.

I leaned against the cool metal of the elevator wall, finally letting out a long, shuddering breath of profound relief.

It was finally over, and I had successfully survived the nightmare.
