Chapter 8 - The Mother-in-Law’s Web

I dropped from the catwalk, landing silently behind her. "Hello, Eleanor."
She spun around, dropping the briefcase. For a second, true panic flashed in her eyes, but it was quickly masked by a veil of aristocratic indignation. "David. You're alive."
"Sorry to disappoint," I said, raising my gun. "You hired a professional to run me off the road? Why, Eleanor? Why kill your own daughter?"
She didn't beg. She laughed. A dry, awful sound. "Clara was weak. She was going to send Greg to prison. Greg is my son, David. My flesh and blood." "Clara was your daughter!" I roared, the composure finally breaking.

"Clara was my stepdaughter," she spat back. "Her father left the entire estate to her. Greg and I got scraps. When Greg started taking what was rightfully ours from her company, she threatened to ruin him. We couldn't allow that."
"So you poisoned my entire family?" "I only meant to poison Clara!" she snapped. "The kids taking a drink... that was unfortunate. But it solves the inheritance issue, doesn't it?"
