Chapter 15 - The ICU Showdown

I burst through the doors of Room 412. The room was illuminated only by the frantic blinking of heart monitors.
Eleanor was standing over Mia’s bed. My little girl looked so fragile, tubes snaking from her arms. Eleanor had the needle poised over Mia’s IV port.
"Step away from my daughter," I growled, leveling the gun at her head.
Eleanor froze, but she didn't drop the needle. "It's over, David. You pull that trigger, the cops outside will gun you down. You'll die a murderer."

"I'll die a father protecting his kids," I said. "Put the syringe down. Now." "She's in pain, David. Let me end it. Once they're gone, the money goes to the trust. I'll make sure they have a beautiful funeral."
She moved to plunge the syringe. I didn't shoot her—the gunshot would bring the cops instantly. Instead, I lunged, tackling her away from the bed.
