Chapter 16 - The Confession on Tape

We crashed into the medical cart, scattering instruments across the floor. Eleanor clawed at my face like a feral animal, trying to stab me with the lethal syringe. I caught her wrist, twisting it hard until she dropped the needle.

I pinned her to the floor. "You're done, Eleanor." Before I could restrain her, the door kicked open. The lights snapped back on. Detective Miller stood there, his gun aimed squarely at my chest. The two patrol cops flanked him.

"Drop it, Vance! Hands in the air!" Miller yelled. "She was trying to kill them!" I yelled back, keeping my knee on Eleanor.

"He's insane!" Eleanor cried out, playing the victim again. "He tried to attack me!" I slowly raised my hands, standing up. "Miller, check her purse. Check the syringe on the floor. It's potassium chloride. It stops the heart."

Miller hesitated, looking at the syringe, then at me. "I said hands on your head."
