Chapter 19 - Justice Served

The trial lasted six weeks, but it was a slaughter. Greg folded immediately, testifying against his own wife and mother for a reduced sentence. Sarah was sentenced to life in federal prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Clara and the attempted murder of my children.

Eleanor, arrogant to the end, tried to claim insanity. The jury didn't buy it. She was given consecutive life sentences. Marcus was exonerated of the murder but faced heavy fines for negligence in the company.

The media dubbed it the "Thanksgiving Massacre," turning my family's tragedy into prime-time fodder. But I shut out the noise. We moved out of that house. We left the city entirely, buying a quiet cabin up in the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by pine trees and silence.

The physical recovery for the kids took months. The mental recovery would take a lifetime.
