Chapter 7 - The Gambler's Betrayal

Two days later, Julian was sitting in his hospital suite when a private investigator arrived with a thick manila folder.

"Mr. Vance, you are not going to like what we found," the investigator warned, sliding the file across the glass table.

Julian opened the folder, his eyes scanning the heavily documented bank statements and wire transfers.

Eleanor had not just stolen the money; she had been funneling it into a massive, illegal offshore gambling ring.

"She lost almost two million dollars in three years," the investigator explained quietly.

"To make matters worse, she took out loans from dangerous loan sharks using your company's name as collateral."

Julian felt sick to his stomach as he flipped through the photographic evidence.

His mother had sacrificed her own granddaughter to the streets just to fund her secret, twisted addiction.

Julian closed the folder with a loud smack.

"Send everything to the District Attorney's fraud division immediately," Julian commanded.
