Chapter 2 - The Final Dime

The entire banquet hall erupted into absolute chaos as Thomas's words echoed through the silent room.
Julian felt a cold sweat break out across his forehead.
Eleanor lunged forward, her diamond necklace glittering under the chandeliers as she screamed at the driver.
"You are fired, Thomas, get out of my sight right now!" she shrieked, losing all her elegant composure.
Julian stepped between his mother and the loyal driver, his eyes burning with a rage he had never felt before.
"Nobody is going anywhere until I hear the entire truth," Julian snarled, his voice shaking the crystal glasses on the tables.
He looked down at little Lily, who was trembling like a leaf in the winter wind.
He gently handed the box of discarded dinner rolls to a stunned waiter and scooped his daughter up into his arms.
"Thomas, get the car ready," Julian commanded, not breaking eye contact with his mother.
"Julian, you cannot leave my birthday party over the lies of a disgruntled employee!" Eleanor cried out, faking a sob.

Julian didn't even blink as he delivered his final blow.
"Enjoy your cake, Mother, because this is the last dime of my money you will ever see."
