Chapter 6 - Declaration of War

Elena was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit of Chicago's most prestigious private hospital.

The doctors told Julian she was suffering from severe malnutrition and a terrible case of pneumonia.

Julian sat by her bedside all night, holding her IV-bruised hand while Lily slept peacefully on a velvet sofa nearby.

By dawn, Julian's sadness had completely transformed into a cold, calculated fury.

He pulled out his phone and called his lead corporate attorney, Marcus.

"Marcus, freeze every single bank account associated with my mother, Eleanor Vance," Julian ordered coldly.

"Sir, that will instantly cut off her credit cards, her estate funds, and her driver's payroll," the lawyer warned.

"I don't care if she can't buy a cup of coffee this morning," Julian snapped back.

"And I want a full forensic audit of the forty thousand dollars she has been stealing from me every month for three years."

Julian hung up the phone, looking at his sleeping wife and daughter.

War had officially been declared.
