Chapter 7 - The Resurrection

She looked like a queen descending from a throne room of ice and shadows.
Elena Vance moved down the grand staircase with an effortless, predatory grace that commanded the entire ballroom. She wore a custom, floor-length gown of midnight-blue velvet that hugged her sculpted silhouette, featuring a dramatic, sweeping train that glided silently over the marble. Adorning her throat was the legendary Vance Blue Diamond—a flawless, fifty-carat heirloom gem that radiated a brilliant, commanding light with every step she took. Her dark hair was styled in sweeping, classic waves, framing a face of breathtaking, untouchable beauty.
Flanking her on her right was her grandfather, Arthur Vance, looking proud and regal, while on her left walked Sebastian, his broad shoulders filling out a bespoke tuxedo, his cold gray eyes scanning the room like a wolf guarding its pack. Behind them marched four elite security operatives in discrete earpieces, creating an invisible, impenetrable barrier around the dynasty.
At the bottom of the stairs, Julian stood completely paralyzed, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. The blood drained from his face so rapidly his skin turned the color of ash. Beside him, Eleanor’s jaw dropped open in catastrophic horror, her hand flying to her emerald necklace as if she were suddenly choking for air.
"No..." Julian whispered, his legs shaking beneath his tuxedo trousers. "No... that's... that's impossible. That's Elena. She’s dead. I left her in the snow... she died in the blizzard..."
"Shut up, you fool!" Eleanor hissed, though her own voice trembled with uncontrollable terror as she grabbed his arm to keep him from collapsing. "Look at those diamonds... look at who she’s walking with! That isn't an elementary school teacher! That’s... that's Arthur Vance's granddaughter!"
Chloe Sterling looked from the regal, diamond-draped woman on the staircase to Julian, her face twisting in confusion and mounting panic. "Julian, what is your mother talking about? Why does the Vance heiress look exactly like your dead wife? What did you do?!"

As the Vance family reached the ballroom floor, the crowd parted before them like the Red Sea, socialites and CEOs scrambling to offer respectful nods and polite greetings to the city's most powerful bloodline. Elena didn't look at any of them. Her piercing, diamond-sharp gaze swept across the room with surgical precision until it locked directly onto Julian’s wide, terrified eyes.
The corners of Elena’s lips curved into a slow, chilling smile. She didn't look away, she didn't blink, and she didn't shrink. She held his gaze across the crowded room, letting him see the absolute, terrifying realization of what he had done: he hadn't discarded a nobody in the snow. He had thrown away the crown princess of a global empire, and now she had returned to claim his soul.
