Chapter 10 - The Forged Documents Exposed

By Monday morning, the legal hammer that Elena had promised descended with surgical, multi-jurisdictional precision. While Julian and Eleanor barricaded themselves inside their Gold Coast mansion, ignoring the swarming news vans parked outside their gates, the legal department of Vance Industries filed a massive, two-hundred-page federal civil RICO and fraud lawsuit against Montgomery Real Estate, Eleanor Montgomery, and the administrators of St. Jude’s Medical Center.

At a televised press conference held in the glass-walled lobby of the Vance Tower downtown, Elena’s lead counsel—a legendary corporate litigator named Marcus Thorne—stood before a battery of microphones beside the State Attorney General. Behind them on high-definition digital monitors were enlarged, side-by-side comparisons of the documents Eleanor had forced Elena to sign in the maternity ward.

"What you are looking at on the left is the authentic signature of Elena Vance, recorded on her corporate fiduciary accounts three years ago," Attorney Thorne stated clearly to the flashing cameras. "What you see on the right are the purported parental termination waivers and psychiatric consent forms submitted by Julian and Eleanor Montgomery to family court last week. Forensic handwriting analysis, combined with digital biometric timestamps from the hospital’s electronic records, confirm that these documents are complete, fraudulent fabrications, signed under severe physical duress and chemical sedation."

Thorne tapped a button on his podium, switching the display to show a signed affidavit from a hospital staff member.

"Furthermore," Thorne continued, his voice echoing through the silent lobby, "as of eight o'clock this morning, the attending head nurse of the St. Jude maternity ward, alongside two private security contractors employed by Eleanor Montgomery, have accepted federal proffer agreements. They have confessed under oath to accepting a total of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in cash bribes to disconnect patient monitoring equipment, falsify psychiatric evaluations declaring my client incompetent, and physically assist in the unlawful abduction of Elena Vance and her newborn daughter, Aria."

The reporters in the lobby erupted into a frenzy of shouted questions, waving their digital recorders.

"Mr. Thorne! Will criminal attempted murder charges be filed against Julian Montgomery?" a reporter from the Chicago Tribune shouted over the din.

Thorne leaned into the microphone, his expression relentless. "The State Attorney General’s office has already convened a special grand jury. But before the criminal justice system processes Mr. Montgomery for his physical crimes, Vance Banking Group intends to fully exercise its fiduciary rights as the primary debt holder of his commercial enterprises. We are not merely going to see justice done in a courtroom; we are going to systematically dismantle every fraudulent dollar, deed, and brick that the Montgomery family has ever claimed to own."

In the den of their mansion, Julian watched the broadcast on his seventy-inch flat screen, his hands shaking so badly he spilled his coffee over his rug. He looked across the room at his mother, who was sitting in her armchair, completely silent, her face looking ten years older and drained of all its tyrannical defiance. The walls of their high-society fortress were no longer just cracking; they were collapsing directly onto their heads.
