Chapter 15 - The Media Tsunami

By six o'clock that evening, the city of Chicago—and the entire global financial community—was engulfed in a media firestorm of unprecedented proportions. Sebastian Vance’s intelligence team did not hand the video of Eleanor’s armed ambush and the audio recordings of the hospital abduction over to the police in secret; they simultaneously leaked the entire, unedited forty-minute digital dossier to every major news network, streaming platform, and social media algorithm on the planet.
Within an hour, the hashtag #TheBlizzardBaby was trending number one worldwide. On every television screen, tablet, and smartphone from New York to Tokyo, the public watched in horror as the true face of the Montgomery family was exposed to the light.
In a packed broadcast studio downtown, the anchor of the evening news looked into the camera with a grave expression, speaking over footage of Eleanor Montgomery being led away from the intersection crash in handcuffs by federal tactical officers.
"We are following breaking developments in what legal experts are calling one of the most heinous domestic conspiracies in modern history," the anchor reported. "Audio recordings released today by Vance Banking Group confirm that disgraced real estate developer Julian Montgomery and his mother, Eleanor Montgomery, systematically orchestrated the abduction and attempted murder of his wife, Elena Vance, and their newborn daughter, Aria, five days ago during the height of the arctic blizzard."
The broadcast cut to the chilled, chilling audio captured by the hospital maternity room's smart-monitor—the clear sound of Eleanor slapping the contract onto Elena’s bed and hissing: “You are terminating your maternal rights... to us, you were never anything more than a low-class incubator.” Followed by Julian’s cruel voice at the rural ditch: “Freeze to death, Elena.”
The public backlash was instantaneous, volcanic, and completely destructive. Protestors gathered outside the Gold Coast Montgomery mansion, carrying signs demanding justice for Elena and baby Aria, throwing red paint across the snow-covered gates. Corporate sponsors, municipal boards, and charity foundations cut ties with the Montgomery name within minutes of the broadcast. Julian’s alumni associations revoked his degrees, and his country clubs publicly expelled both him and his mother for "conduct abhorrent to human decency."
In the penthouse suite of the Vance Tower, Elena stood by the glass window with baby Aria resting securely in her arms, looking out over the glittering skyline of the city that had once ignored her cries. Arthur Vance stood beside her, sipping a cup of tea as he watched the news networks display the plummeting stock charts of Montgomery Real Estate, which had officially been delisted from the stock exchange at the closing bell.

"The public has rendered their verdict before the judge has even picked up his gavel," Arthur noted, a rare smile of satisfaction touching his weathered lips. "The Montgomery name is no longer just bankrupt, Elena. It is a synonym for monsters. You have destroyed their past, their present, and their future."
Elena looked down at her daughter, who let out a soft, contented coo, her tiny fingers reaching up to touch the warm gold chain of Elena’s necklace. "They tried to bury us in the dark, Grandfather," Elena whispered, her voice steady and filled with absolute peace. "Now the entire world is watching them burn in the light."
