Chapter 6 - The Repossession

The next morning, Elena walked into her tech firm looking flawless.

She wore a sharp tailored suit, her head held high.

Her colleagues knew nothing of the dramatic weekend, and she intended to keep it that way.

During her lunch break, Diane called with excellent news.

"The annulment papers have been officially served," Diane announced.

"Marcus was handed the documents right outside his parents' house."

Elena took a sip of her expensive latte.

"How did he react?" she asked, entirely unbothered.

"The process server said he started crying and begging for a chance to talk."

"Good," Elena replied coldly.

"Make sure the restraining order is firmly in place."

Back in the suburbs, the Vance family was in total meltdown mode.

A tow truck had just pulled up into their driveway.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Marcus yelled, running outside in his pajamas.

The tow truck driver handed him a piece of paper.

"Repossessing this Audi, buddy," the driver said casually.

"The primary leaseholder, Ms. Hayes, terminated the lease agreement."

Marcus watched in utter despair as his precious luxury car was hoisted away.

Eleanor stood on the porch, clutching her pearls in horror.

The neighbors were all watching from their windows, whispering to each other.

The facade of the rich, successful Vance family was crumbling in real time.
