Chapter 12 - The Annulment

The day of the annulment hearing arrived with heavy rain.

Elena walked into the courthouse flanked by her father and her terrifying lawyer, Diane.

She wore a stunning white suit, looking like a symbol of pure victory.

Marcus arrived in a cheap, ill-fitting suit, looking exhausted and terrified.

Eleanor and Arthur sat in the back of the courtroom, completely silent.

The judge reviewed the evidence, including the police report of the assault.

"Mr. Vance, your behavior is abhorrent," the judge said sternly from the bench.

"You married this woman under false pretenses to exploit her financially."

Marcus kept his head down, unable to even look at the judge.

"The prenup is ironclad, and the annulment is hereby granted," the judge declared.

"Mr. Vance is ordered to repay the forty thousand dollars in personal debts Ms. Hayes covered."

Marcus's jaw dropped, and a loud sob escaped his throat.

"Your Honor, I don't have that kind of money!" he pleaded desperately.

"Then I suggest you find a job, Mr. Vance," the judge replied coldly.
