Chapter 11 - The Bailout and the Bonus

Marcus spent forty-eight agonizing hours in a cold, holding cell.
His family couldn't afford the bail money.
Finally, Arthur managed to scrape together a bail bond by pawning Eleanor’s jewelry.
When Marcus walked out of the police station, he looked like a broken man.
His tailored suits were gone, replaced by wrinkled, cheap sweatpants.
"We have a court date next month," Arthur told him grimly in the car.
"And I hired a public defender because we literally have zero dollars left."
Marcus stared out the window, the reality of his actions finally sinking in.
He had thrown away a beautiful, successful, and kind woman.
He had traded a life of luxury and love for a single moment of toxic ego.
Meanwhile, Elena was thriving in her new, drama-free life.
She secured a massive contract for her tech firm, earning a huge bonus.
She spent her weekends at the spa, drinking champagne with her real friends.
