Chapter 4 - Empty Accounts

The next morning, the police called us with a disturbing update.
Detective Harris requested we come down to the precinct immediately.
When we arrived, he ushered us into a small, windowless interrogation room.
"We checked Arthur Vance's financial records," Detective Harris began.
"Over the past three days, he liquidated almost all of his major assets."
Marcus gasped, leaning back in his chair in pure shock.
"He transferred over two million dollars into offshore accounts," Harris continued.
"This wasn't a sudden snap of judgment, folks."
"He has been preparing to vanish for weeks."
My blood ran cold as the detective laid out the timeline.
While Arthur was sitting at our dinner table smiling, he was plotting this nightmare.
He had bought the paint stripper a week ago at a hardware store two towns over.
They even had security footage of him paying in cash and wearing a baseball cap.

He had orchestrated this horrific crime with the precision of a seasoned criminal.
He was a monster hiding in plain sight, pretending to be a loving grandfather.
