Chapter 13 - The Manifesto
Inside the surviving half of the cabin, investigators found a laptop.
It was heavily encrypted, but the cyber division managed to crack it.
Detective Harris printed out a document found on the desktop and handed it to us.
It was a twenty-page manifesto written by Arthur Vance.
Reading it was like looking directly into the mind of a sociopath.
He detailed his belief that his family line had become weak and ungrateful.
He blamed me entirely for "corrupting" Marcus and Chloe.
"If a branch is diseased, it must be pruned for the tree to survive," he had written.
He didn't just want to hurt Chloe.
The manifesto revealed he had a hit list.
I was at the top of it.
Marcus was second, labeled as a "traitor to his own blood."
"We need to move you and your daughter to a secure safe house," Harris stated grimly.
"He's not running away. He's hunting you."
