Chapter 14 - Relocation

We were given exactly one hour to pack our belongings from the hospital.

Under the cover of darkness, an unmarked armored van pulled up to the loading dock.

Medics carefully loaded Chloe into the back, keeping her comfortable on a stretcher.

Marcus and I sat beside her, flanked by two heavily armed federal marshals.

We were taken to a nondescript apartment building in a different city.

The safe house had steel-reinforced doors, bulletproof windows, and no internet access.

It felt like a prison, but it was the only way to keep my daughter safe.

Chloe was confused and frightened by the sudden move.

"Are the bad guys coming?" she asked, clutching her stuffed bear.

"No, baby," I promised, kissing her forehead.

"The police are just making sure nobody bothers you while you heal."

I looked at Marcus, and we shared a silent, terrified look.

Arthur was incredibly resourceful and completely insane.

No matter how thick the walls were, I wouldn't feel safe until he was dead or behind bars.

We had to remain hyper-vigilant every single second of the day.
