Chapter 10 - The Argument
Once Chloe fell back asleep, Marcus and I stepped out into the hallway.
"We can't keep lying to her," I whispered fiercely.
"She needs to know she is safe and that he can never hurt her again."
"She's too young to process evil like that," Marcus argued, pacing the floor.
"If we tell her the truth, she will be terrified of everyone."
"She will find out eventually," I countered.
"The news is everywhere. The nurses know. The police are guarding her door."
"I just want to protect her!" Marcus raised his voice, drawing a look from a nurse.
He took a deep breath and leaned against the wall, looking exhausted.
"I failed to protect her from him," he admitted, his voice cracking.
"I brought that monster into our home."
I wrapped my arms around him, letting him cry into my shoulder.
"We both trusted him," I said softly.

"But now we know, and we will never let him near her again."
We had to be a united front if we were going to survive this.
