Chapter 15 - Taking the Stand

Finally, it was my turn to testify.

I walked up to the stand, keeping my eyes locked on the judge.

I didn't let my parents' glares intimidate me anymore.

I explained my job as a forensic accountant and how I uncovered their fraud.

I walked the jury through the complex spreadsheets, the offshore accounts, and the forged signatures.

"They stole millions from innocent employees, and they stole my identity," I said clearly.

"And when I refused to give them the last $25,000 I had saved for my baby, they tried to kill us."

My mother suddenly stood up in the courtroom, screaming.

"You ungrateful little liar! I gave you life!"

The judge banged his gavel fiercely.

"Bailiff, restrain the defendant!"

She was forcibly sat back down, crying violently.

She had just proven my point to the entire jury.
