Chapter 14 - The Witnesses
The first witness was the emergency room nurse.
She testified with cold, clinical precision about the state I was in when I arrived.
"She was minutes away from bleeding to death, and the fetus was in distress," she stated firmly.
The jury looked horrified.
Next was Marcus.
He stood tall in the witness box and recounted exactly what he saw at the party.
"The mother pushed her intentionally. The father told everyone to let her drown. The sister laughed."
The defense attorney tried to rattle him, asking if he was just seeking a reward.
Marcus just smiled politely.
"I don't need a reward for having basic human decency, sir."
