Chapter 11 - Growing Stronger

Despite the chaos outside, my only focus was Mia.

She was a fighter, slowly gaining weight and breathing easier every single day.

The bruises on my stomach faded, but the psychological scars were still healing.

Marcus visited us twice a week, bringing coffee and sitting with me when I felt overwhelmed.

He told me about his dreams of going back to school for engineering.

I told him I would gladly pay for his tuition once my $25,000 was unfrozen from the evidence logs.

He refused, saying saving a life wasn't a transaction.

But I insisted, knowing I owed him my entire world.

The emergency nurse who had documented my injuries also checked on us daily.

She became the supportive mother figure I had always desperately craved.

I wasn't alone anymore.

I had built a new, real family in the most unexpected place.
