Chapter 8 - The Legal Strike

At 3:30 PM precisely, a sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb of my house. A process server in a sharp gray suit stepped out, carrying a thick manila envelope. By now, Marcus and Eleanor were sitting on the front porch steps, visibly shaken from the vehicle seizure and arguing bitterly over who had screwed up the bank accounts.
The server walked up the walkway, looked Marcus dead in the eye, and asked, "Marcus Vance?"
"Yeah? What now?" Marcus snapped, standing up aggressively.
"You've been served," the man said simply, pressing the heavy envelope against Marcus’s chest before turning on his heel and walking away.

Inside that envelope was a masterpiece of legal devastation crafted by my attorney. It contained an emergency filing for divorce, an immediate ex-parte freezing of all marital assets, a formal notice of liability for the forged six-figure mortgage, and a protective order legally barring Marcus and Eleanor from coming within 500 feet of my person, my workplace, or any military installation.
The documents explicitly detailed the midnight assault, complete with high-resolution photographs of my lacerated scalp and the piles of hair on the floor, categorizing the incident as severe domestic abuse and physical felony assault. The trap hadn't just sprung; it had locked them in a cage of their own making.
