Chapter 5 - The Base Gate Confrontation

By noon, Marcus had panicked. The live feed showed him grabbing his car keys and rushing out the front door, shouting over his shoulder that he was going to drive down to the base and "drag me out of whatever meeting I was playing hide-and-seek in." He assumed his dependent ID card gave him unconditional ownership of my time and workspace.
He was wrong. At 12:30 PM, my base security liaison knocked on my door. "Colonel, base security at Gate Four has your husband pulling up. He’s demanding entry and acting belligerent with the Security Forces guards."
"Status of his dependent pass?" I asked calmly without looking up from my tactical reports.
"Revoked in the DEERS system as of 0600 this morning, Ma'am, per your orders," the liaison replied with a slight, knowing nod.

"Instruct Security Forces to deny entry," I ordered. "If he refuses to vacate the vehicle search area or attempts to harass military personnel, treat him as an unauthorized civilian trespasser. Impound the vehicle if necessary."
Ten minutes later, I received a secure snapshot from the gate camera. It showed Marcus standing in the drizzle outside his SUV, surrounded by three heavily armed Air Force MPs directing him to turn around immediately. The look of utter shock and humiliation on his face was timeless. For the first time in his life, his male privilege and domestic intimidation had hit a literal brick wall of federal authority.
