Chapter 14 - The Arrest

The execution of the felony warrants was swift, precise, and impossible to hide from the suburban neighborhood that Eleanor had ruled over like a petty queen for a decade. At 6:00 AM the following morning—exactly one week after they had sheared my hair in the dark—four marked police cruisers and a federal DCIS black SUV surrounded my former home.

Through my remote security feed, I watched as officers pounded on the front door. When Marcus opened it, still in his pajamas, two detectives immediately grabbed his wrists, spinning him around to slap the heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists.

"Marcus Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, identity theft, and accessory to felony domestic assault," the officer's voice boomed over the body cam audio feed.

Moments later, Eleanor was led out of the house in handcuffs by two federal agents. She wasn't wearing her designer clothes or her smug smirk anymore; she was barefoot, disheveled, and weeping hysterically as the neighbors stepped out onto their porches with their cell phones out, recording every humiliating second of her perp walk. The woman who had demanded I resign my life's work in the shadows was now being dragged out of my house in the glaring light of dawn.
