The atmosphere inside the command center shifted the second I walked through the reinforced double doors. My service dress uniform was immaculate, the silver eagles gleaming on my shoulders, but it was my bald, clean-shaven head that drew immediate, respectful silence from the dozens of intelligence officers and tech specialists lining the floor.

My vice commander, Lieutenant Colonel Vance, stepped up immediately, his eyes widening for a fraction of a second before snapping into a crisp salute. "Ma'am. Welcome to the 84th Cyber Wing. Command floor is prepped for your briefing."

"At ease, Vance," I said, my voice projecting effortlessly across the room. "We have a massive operational load this quarter. Let’s get straight to the network architecture."
