Chapter 16 - The Eviction Notice

With Marcus and Eleanor barred from returning to the property by the criminal judge's order of protection, my legal team moved in to reclaim my physical domain. Because the house had been purchased using my VA loan entitlement with funds traced entirely to my pre-marital deployment savings, the court granted my motion for immediate exclusive possession.

I hired a professional moving crew and a forensic cleaning service to wipe the house clean of their presence. Every single item belonging to Marcus and Eleanor—their clothes, their cheap furniture, Eleanor’s vanity mirrors, and Marcus’s golf clubs—was carefully boxed, inventoried by a public notary to prevent theft claims, and placed into a standard climate-controlled storage unit.

I prepaid the storage unit for exactly thirty days, mailed the access key to Marcus’s attorney, and officially listed the house for sale with the top real estate agent in the city. When I walked through the empty rooms one last time, the heavy, suffocating scent of Eleanor’s perfume was completely gone, replaced by the clean, sharp smell of citrus disinfectant and fresh paint. The house where I had been attacked was no longer a crime scene; it was a liquidated asset.
