Chapter 3 - The Digital Trace

In the soundproof confines of my private command office, I took my fifteen-minute lunch break to review the preliminary findings from my private investigator. What the audit uncovered was a labyrinth of financial deceit that went back at least three years. Marcus hadn't just been leaning on my paycheck—he had been running a systematic siphon, diverting my hazard pay and deployment bonuses into a shell company registered under Eleanor’s maiden name.

Even worse, the medical coverage I had generously extended to Eleanor through a specialized dependent program had been repeatedly billed for cosmetic procedures and luxury wellness retreats, disguised as physical therapy through a fraudulent billing specialist. They had treated my career as a personal ATM while privately mocking my dedication to the service.

I opened my secure personal dashboard and initiated the final banking lockouts. I watched the green status indicators on their joint cards flip to TERMINATED. I severed the auto-pay link to Marcus’s seventy-thousand-dollar SUV, canceled the direct deposit to our shared checking account, and redirected 100% of my military pay into a brand-new, single-access vault at a federal credit union.

They wanted a wife who stayed at home and focused entirely on family? They were about to learn what happens when the family's sole provider officially resigns from her role as their personal bank.
