Chapter 16 - Rebuilding from the Ashes

The divorce settlement was finalized three months later under the strict supervision of a federal mediator.

Because the prenup was invalidated, I was legally awarded exactly half of Julian’s remaining liquidated assets.

I also received full, unshared ownership of the massive Malibu estate where he had originally kicked me out.

I walked through the grand limestone foyer of the mansion, holding baby Maya in my arms.

The house no longer felt like a cold, oppressive museum controlled by a tyrant.

It felt like a castle, won through blood, sweat, and absolute legal warfare.

I hired a completely new staff, replacing Julian's loyal spies with people I actually trusted.

The first thing I did was take the leather duffel bag Julian had packed for me and threw it into the fireplace.

I watched it burn, the flames completely consuming the last physical reminder of his cruelty.

Harrison arrived later that evening, carrying a massive bouquet of celebratory flowers and a bottle of expensive champagne.

"To the most dangerous woman in California," Harrison toasted, clinking his glass against mine.

"To the lawyer who believed me when the rest of the world didn't," I replied with a warm smile.

Maya cooed from her luxury bassinet, entirely oblivious to the massive storm she had survived before she was even born.

She was going to grow up in a world of absolute privilege, protected by a mother who would burn the world down to keep her safe.

Julian’s criminal trial for perjury and evidence tampering was scheduled for the following spring.

His high-priced lawyers had abandoned him when his accounts were frozen by the federal government.

He was relying on an overworked public defender to keep him out of a federal penitentiary.

It was the ultimate, poetic justice for a man who believed his money made him completely untouchable.
