Chapter 3 - The Eviction Notice

Eleanor watched herself jerk the crib and whisper those vile words to my wife. For a split second, a flash of genuine panic crossed her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by defensive indignation.

"You're spying on me? In my own son's house?"

"It’s a nursery camera, Mother. And you have exactly five minutes to pack whatever fits into one suitcase and get out of my house."

She stood up, puffing her chest. "You can't do this! I am your mother! I gave you life! I am trying to toughen her up so she can be a proper wife to you!"

"You're a monster," I said, stepping closer, refusing to give her an inch of dominance. "And you are no longer welcome in my life. Five minutes, Eleanor. Or I physically drag you out to the curb."

The doorbell rang. It was the locksmith. I walked to the door, let him in, and instructed him to start changing the deadbolts immediately.

Eleanor realized I wasn't bluffing. Sputtering curses and threats, she stormed toward the guest room.

I didn't wait for her. I sprinted up the stairs to find my wife.
