Chapter 11 - The Courtroom Showdown

Eleanor spent a night in county jail before posting bail. A week later, we found ourselves in family court for the hearing to make the restraining order permanent.
Eleanor arrived wearing a pastel cardigan, clutching a tissue, perfectly playing the role of a frail, misunderstood grandmother.
Her public defender argued that it was a family dispute taken out of context, a brief moment of frustration. Then, our lawyer played the nursery video on the courtroom monitors.
The judge, a stern woman with zero tolerance for nonsense, watched Eleanor yank the crib and whisper those vile words.
When the video ended, the courtroom was dead silent. The judge looked down at Eleanor with absolute disgust.

"Mrs. Vance, what I just witnessed was an act of profound cruelty. You attacked a recovering mother and endangered an infant. You are a danger to this family."
The judge struck the gavel. "Permanent restraining order granted. Five years. If you violate it again, you will serve mandatory jail time."
