Chapter 15 - The Sanctuary Restored

Six months later.

The morning sun filtered brightly through the kitchen windows, catching the dust motes dancing in the air. Clara stood by the stove, humming softly as she flipped pancakes.

She looked radiant, fully healed, and stronger than ever. In the center of the room, Maya, now a babbling, energetic infant, was safely secured in her high chair, covered in a sticky layer of maple syrup.

Eleanor had accepted a plea deal to avoid a lengthy trial. She was currently serving a three-year sentence in a state correctional facility. We never received a letter, and we never reached out. She was simply a ghost, a hazard that had been permanently neutralized.

I walked up behind Clara, wrapping my arms around her waist, mindful of the faint scar hidden beneath her clothes—a badge of survival.

"What are you smiling about?" she asked, leaning back into my chest.

"Just assessing the current environment," I whispered, kissing her neck. "Zero risks detected. Total structural integrity. Perfect conditions."

Clara laughed, a bright, beautiful sound that filled the house. Terror had once tried to take root here, but it failed. We had ripped it out by the roots. Our home was finally our own, and no one would ever break our walls again.
