Chapter 8 - The Legal Shark

The next morning, I had a Zoom consultation with Eleanor Vance. Despite the shared last name, she was no relation to my husband. She was, however, the most feared, ruthless family law attorney in the state of Texas. She was expensive, but when I told her my story, she took the case on contingency.
"I love destroying arrogant men who think money makes them bulletproof," Eleanor said, sipping her coffee through the screen.
I sent her all the evidence. The videos, the audio recordings, the police reports, the threatening texts.
Eleanor whistled. "Clara, this isn't just a divorce. This is a slaughter. David’s threats are grounds for an immediate emergency restraining order. But we aren’t going to stop there. I’m pulling all of their financial records. Men like David, who are enmeshed with their parents, usually hide their marital assets in their parents' accounts to avoid splitting them in a divorce."

"Take everything," I said, my voice cold. "I don't care about the money for me. But I want Mia's future secured, and I want them to have absolutely nothing left to fight me with."
"Consider it done," Eleanor smiled, a terrifying, predatory grin. "I will file the restraining order, the divorce papers, and a motion for sole physical and legal custody before lunch. Sit tight, Clara. The storm is coming, and they have no umbrellas."
