Chapter 8 - The Ultimatum

Our fragile, newfound romance was violently interrupted the very next morning by an emergency alert on Lorenzo’s heavily encrypted satellite phone.
Marco, his most trusted lieutenant, rushed onto the sunlit patio with a deeply grim expression, handing the secure device directly to his boss.
It was a chilling video message from Camilla Bianchi, who was currently sitting smugly right next to the vicious Don Moretti in a dark warehouse.
“Hello, Lorenzo, my former darling,” she sneered cruelly through the small screen, a wicked, triumphant smile twisting her heavily painted lips.
“Did you honestly think I wouldn't eventually find out about your little, pathetic cliffside hideaway down on the coast?”
“Surrender the treacherous maid and her annoying brat to us within forty-eight hours, or we will mercilessly burn the entire Amalfi coast to the ground.”
Lorenzo violently smashed the expensive phone against the solid stone wall, shattering it into dozens of tiny, jagged plastic pieces.
His dark eyes instantly burned with a murderous, terrifying rage that made the temperature on the warm patio feel like it had dropped below freezing.
“I am going straight back to Naples tonight to end this,” he declared in a deadly, unwavering voice to Marco.
“No, Lorenzo, you cannot do that!” I screamed, desperately grabbing his muscular arm to stop him from marching back into the house.
“It is a complete suicide mission; they have ten times the manpower you do, and they are expecting you to walk right into their trap!”
He turned to me, his harsh expression softening just a fraction as he placed a gentle kiss onto my trembling forehead.
“I am Lorenzo Rossi, the undisputed king of this underworld, and they have made a fatal mistake by threatening what is rightfully mine.”
“I will leave my best men here to guard you and Lily, and I swear on my life that I will return to you victorious.”

He turned his back and walked away, transforming instantly back into the cold, calculating mafia monster that had terrified me on the day we met.
I stood frozen on the balcony, watching his tall, imposing figure disappear into the shadows of the villa, absolutely terrified that I would never see him alive again.
