Chapter 13 - The Bargain

A tense, suffocating silence fell over the entire warehouse as the two rival factions mentally prepared for a sudden bloodbath.
Lorenzo continued to struggle fiercely against his restraints, his deep voice echoing with raw panic as he begged me to just run away.
“Do not give him anything, Elena, he will absolutely kill us both the second he gets what he wants!” Lorenzo shouted frantically.
I deliberately ignored his desperate pleas, maintaining my fierce, unwavering eye contact with the ruthless old man who held our lives in his hands.
“This is a very simple trade, Don Moretti, your precious freedom in exchange for our immediate, safe departure from this city,” I stated calmly.
Moretti took a long, slow drag from his expensive cigar, blowing a thick cloud of toxic gray smoke directly into my face.
“You are surprisingly brave for a common servant, Mrs. Hayes, I will certainly give you credit for that,” he chuckled darkly.
He lazily snapped his fingers, gesturing to the muscular guards flanking the chained and beaten mafia boss.
“Unlock Rossi from the beam and let him stand up,” Moretti barked loudly, his authoritative voice echoing off the rusted metal walls.
Camilla looked absolutely furious, her face turning an ugly shade of red as she violently stomped her expensive heel on the dirty ground.
“You cannot seriously be letting him go after everything we did to capture him tonight!” she screamed in pure, unhinged frustration.

“Shut your mouth, Camilla, or I will gladly have my men silence you permanently,” Moretti threatened without even looking in her direction.
The guards reluctantly unlocked the heavy padlocks, allowing Lorenzo to collapse heavily to his knees before slowly pushing himself up to his feet.
