Chapter 11 - Into the Lion's Den

I walked right up to the heavily armed Moretti guards standing by the massive steel doors, raising my hands high into the cold night air.
My legs were shaking violently with every step, but the desperate thought of losing Lorenzo gave me a courage I never knew I possessed.
“I am Elena Hayes, and I have exactly what Don Moretti has been looking for,” I announced loudly, my voice ringing out in the deadly silence.
The burly guards instantly grabbed me with rough, unforgiving hands, patting me down for weapons before dragging me aggressively inside the abandoned mill.
The interior of the massive building was dimly lit by harsh industrial work lights, casting long, terrifying shadows against the rusted metal walls.
In the center of the vast concrete floor, Lorenzo was brutally chained to a thick steel support beam, heavily bloodied and clearly beaten.
My heart shattered into a million painful pieces as I saw the deep cuts on his handsome face and the exhaustion in his usually sharp eyes.
Camilla stood triumphantly over him in a designer trench coat, laughing cruelly as she taunted the fallen king of Naples.
“Well, look who finally decided to join our little execution party,” she mocked loudly, her high heels clicking sharply against the concrete as she noticed me.
Lorenzo forcefully lifted his heavy head, his dark eyes widening in pure, unadulterated horror as he realized I was actually there.
“Elena, no, why did you come here?” he roared with raw desperation, pulling violently against his heavy metal chains until his wrists bled.

I forced myself to look away from his agonizing gaze and stared directly into the cold, calculating eyes of Don Moretti, who was smoking a thick cigar in the corner.
“I have Arthur’s missing ledger right here in my hand,” I stated firmly, holding up the small black flash drive for everyone to see.
