Chapter 18 - Returning Home

We finally returned to the beautiful Amalfi cliffside villa just as the golden morning sun began to rise gloriously over the sparkling blue ocean.

I immediately sprinted down to the secure underground panic room, my heart soaring with immense joy when I saw my sweet Lily perfectly safe.

She was sound asleep in her small bed, tightly clutching a brand new, soft teddy bear that Marco had bought for her.

I gently kissed her warm cheek, silently thanking God that she would never have to know the terrifying violence that had occurred tonight.

Upstairs, Lorenzo was quietly washing the dried blood and dark soot off his handsome face, staring intensely at his exhausted reflection in the mirror.

The violent, bloody underworld he had ruled for so long was permanently fractured, and his most dangerous enemies were finally gone.

I slowly walked into the bathroom and gently wrapped my arms around his muscular waist from behind, resting my tired head against his broad back.

“You do not have to fight anymore,” I whispered softly against his warm skin.

He slowly turned around, pulling me incredibly tight against his chest and burying his face into the crook of my neck.

“I am completely done with this dark life, Elena,” he confessed in a raw, emotional whisper.

“I am going to legitimize all my businesses, because I want to build a real, safe family with you.”

Happy tears freely pricked my tired eyes as I pulled his face down to mine, kissing him with every single ounce of love I had.
