Chapter 10 - A Dangerous Journey

“What exactly is that little device, Elena?” Marco asked, his dark eyes widening in genuine surprise as I held the small black drive up to the light.
“It is the master list of every single corrupt politician, dirty police chief, and bribed federal judge the Morettis currently own,” I realized with a gasp.
“If Lorenzo gets his hands on this exact drive, he could instantly destroy their entire political protection without firing another single bullet.”
“We absolutely need to get this flash drive to him in Naples right this second,” I stated with fierce, unwavering determination.
Marco immediately shook his head in aggressive denial, firmly crossing his massive, tattooed arms over his broad chest.
“Lorenzo gave me strict, explicit orders to keep you completely safe inside this villa, and he will literally shoot me himself if I let you leave.”
I stepped right up to the massive enforcer, glaring directly up into his eyes with a newfound, terrifying bravery I didn't know I possessed.
“If Lorenzo dies tonight because he didn't have this vital leverage, his blood will be completely on your hands, Marco.”
He hesitated for a long, agonizing moment, heavily weighing his strict loyalty to his boss against the undeniable logic of my desperate argument.
“Fine, but you are staying completely down in the backseat of the armored car the entire time we are driving,” he finally grunted in reluctant agreement.
We securely locked my precious Lily inside the impenetrable underground panic room with three heavily armed female guards to watch over her.
Marco drove the bulletproof SUV at incredibly breakneck speeds through the dark, winding, and dangerous coastal roads toward the chaotic city.
We finally reached the outskirts of Naples by midnight, the usually vibrant city now cloaked in an eerie, terrifyingly deadly silence.
Lorenzo’s current forward operating base was an abandoned, massive industrial steel mill located right on the edge of the sprawling harbor.
When we finally arrived, my heart plummeted in pure horror as I saw the old building completely surrounded by dozens of black Moretti sedans.
“We are way too late, they have completely trapped him inside,” Marco cursed loudly, slamming the brakes and pulling out his heavy assault rifles.

“No, we have exactly what they desperately want,” I whispered fiercely, clutching the plastic flash drive so tightly my knuckles turned completely white.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and slowly stepped out of the armored vehicle, preparing myself to walk directly into the ultimate lion's den to save Lorenzo.
