Chapter 7 - Forced Proximity

The agonizing days slowly turned into long, quiet weeks inside the heavily guarded isolation of the beautiful cliffside villa.

With absolutely no one around but a few of his most loyal, tight-lipped enforcers, Lorenzo and I inevitably grew much closer.

To my utter shock and amazement, he patiently sat on the floor every afternoon to teach my little Lily how to play competitive chess.

I watched from the kitchen as the most ruthless killer in Italy smiled genuinely, a rare and breathtaking sight that completely softened his harsh features.

I found myself rapidly falling for the surprisingly tender man carefully hidden behind the terrifying, blood-soaked reputation he wore like armor.

One exceptionally warm evening, after Lily finally went to sleep in the guest room, we shared an expensive bottle of red wine out on the grand balcony.

The gentle, salty ocean breeze lightly swept through my hair as I nervously swirled the dark liquid in my crystal glass.

“What exactly happens to us when this terrible war is finally over?” I asked quietly, staring out at the endless, dark waves crashing below.

Lorenzo sighed heavily, running a tired hand through his thick, dark hair as he leaned his muscular forearms against the stone railing.

“I am gathering my remaining loyal forces to completely eliminate the Moretti threat and punish Camilla for her treason,” he stated with cold, absolute certainty.

“And what happens after you get your bloody revenge?” I pressed further, desperately needing to know where a simple housekeeper fit into his violent future.

He reached out slowly, his large, warm hand gently cuping my cheek and forcing me to look directly into his soulful, intense eyes.

“Then, I want you to stay right by my side as my equal, Elena, because you have brought a light into my dark life that I never want to lose.”

My heart skipped a beat at his bold confession, the terrifying reality of loving a mafia boss warring fiercely against my undeniable feelings.

I leaned helplessly into his soft touch, closing my eyes as he gently pulled me flush against his hard, warm chest.

Our lips finally met in a slow, fiercely passionate kiss that tasted heavily of rich wine, unspoken promises, and a dangerous, thrilling future.

In the protective arms of Lorenzo Rossi, I knew I could never go back to the mundane, invisible life I had lived before.
