Chapter 6 - The Safe House

We finally emerged many agonizing hours later on the rugged, breathtakingly beautiful Amalfi coast as the sun began to slowly rise.

Lorenzo’s absolute safest hideout was a heavily fortified, deeply secluded cliffside villa that completely overlooked the crashing blue ocean below.

He locked the heavy, reinforced steel doors behind us with a loud, echoing clang and finally lowered his smoking weapon to his side.

As he turned around to face the morning light, I gasped out loud when I saw that his crisp white shirt was completely soaked with dark blood.

“Lorenzo, you are terribly hurt!” I cried out in genuine panic, carefully setting an exhausted Lily down onto a plush velvet sofa.

“It is just a minor graze from a stray bullet, Elena,” he muttered stubbornly, wincing visibly in intense pain as he struggled to peel off his ruined jacket.

I completely ignored his macho protests, my maternal instincts kicking into high gear as I sprinted to find the villa's medical supplies.

I quickly located a comprehensive first-aid kit in the pristine master bathroom and forcefully made the towering mob boss sit down on a wooden chair.

As I carefully cleaned the nasty, jagged wound on his muscular left shoulder, our faces were suddenly only mere inches apart.

The heavy, unspoken tension lingering between us in that quiet room was thick, magnetic, and completely undeniable.

I could feel the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my fingertips as I gently applied the stinging antiseptic to his torn skin.

“You risked absolutely everything to save our lives tonight,” I breathed softly, my eyes locking onto his intense, dark gaze.

He looked deeply into my eyes, slowly tracing the gentle curve of my jawline with his rough, calloused thumb.

“I made a promise to protect you, Elena, and I am a man who always keeps his word, no matter the deadly cost.”

My breath hitched in my throat as his intense gaze slowly dropped down to my trembling lips, sending a fiery jolt of electricity straight through my veins.

We were two completely different people from two entirely different worlds, trapped together in a deadly game of survival and dangerous mafia politics.

Yet, in that isolated, beautiful cliffside fortress, the terrifying king of the Naples underworld was quickly becoming the only man I could ever trust.
