Chapter 15 - The Fall of the Empress

The flashing blue and red lights of the Gendarmerie Nationale illuminated the grand terrace of the hotel as armed officers swarmed into the private dining room. Vivian didn't even fight as they placed the cold steel handcuffs around her wrists. Her makeup was smeared, her white linen suit wrinkled and stained with spilled wine—a poetic reversal of the night she had looked down upon Elena in her ruined silk maternity dress.
As two officers dragged Vivian past the table, she stopped, glaring at Elena with eyes full of venomous hatred. "You think you've won, little typing-pool girl? Pinnacle is a multi-billion-dollar titan. My lawyers will have me out on bail before the sun rises in New York. You can't destroy a legacy with a stack of old papers."
Elena stepped calmly into Vivian’s path, leaning in close so only the fallen heiress could hear her whisper.
"You haven't checked the stock market ticker in the last hour, have you, Vivian?" Elena smiled—a cold, brilliant expression of absolute victory. "Apex Capital didn't just short your tech subsidiaries. Once the SEC received the evidence of your corporate fraud and attempted murder, Pinnacle’s credit rating was downgraded to junk status. The board of directors held an emergency vote fifteen minutes ago."
Vivian’s eyes widened. "No... they wouldn't dare..."
"They voted to strip you of your executive title, freeze your corporate assets, and accept a hostile takeover bid to avoid total bankruptcy," Elena continued, her voice steady and rhythmic, like the beat of a drum. "The buyer is Apex Capital. I don't just own your debt, Vivian. I own your desk. I own your penthouse. And tomorrow morning... I am having that mahogany boardroom table chopped into firewood."
Vivian let out a hollow, agonizing scream of defeat as the officers pulled her out of the room, her cries echoing down the marble hallway until the elevator doors slid shut.
In the quiet remains of the dining room, Julian slowly stood up from the floor. He looked at the shattered glass, the overturned table, and finally at the woman who had single-handedly conquered the dynasty that had tried to crush her.
"You really did it," Julian said quietly, wiping the tears from his face. "You took it all."

"I took back what was stolen from my son," Elena corrected him, picking up her leather dossier and handing it to Marcus, who stood silently by the door. She turned to look at Julian, her expression complex—a mixture of lingering love and undeniable caution. "The police will want your statement, Julian. Tell them the truth. Everything."
"And after that?" Julian asked, his voice cracking with hope and desperation. "Where do I go, Elena?"
