Chapter 1 - The Resonant Shadows

The penthouse suite of Pinnacle Industries was a triumph of minimalist design—stark, immaculate, and chillingly empty. Polished granite floors reflected the faint glow of the city skyline, projecting an aura of boundless wealth. At this midnight hour, the stillness was suffocating, interrupted only by the brutal, rhythmic impact of heavy metal slamming against solid oak.

Vivian, an imposing woman poured into a garish, blood-red velvet gown, towered over the center of the massive conference table. Her face, plastered in a heavy layer of foundation and vampy dark lipstick, was twisted into a grotesque sneer of absolute malice. In her manicured grip, she wielded a heavy iron golf club. Whack! She swung it down mercilessly against the polished surface.

Cowering beneath the massive oak structure, trapped within the claustrophobic darkness, lay Elena. Wearing a pale silk maternity dress now marred by sweat and office grime, Elena wrapped her arms protectively around her swollen, third-trimester belly. She wept without a sound, her chest heaving with ragged, panicked breaths. Vivian wasn’t striking her flesh—at least, not yet. She was waging a war of psychological torture, using the deafening blows to torment the defenseless woman caged beneath her feet. Each violent impact sent shockwaves through the timber, showering dust over her in the dark.
