Chapter 14 - The Reckoning of Julian Vance

"You did this?" Julian’s voice dropped to a lethal, trembling whisper. He slowly turned his back on Elena, walking toward his sister like a cornered predator. "You killed my child? You drove my wife into hiding for five years... while you watched me weep at an empty grave every single anniversary?"

Vivian pressed herself against the velvet wallpaper of the dining room, her haughty demeanor dissolving into pathetic, wide-eyed terror. "Julian, please! You have to understand! Father left the controlling shares of Pinnacle to the first male heir! If that typing-pool trash had given birth to a boy, her son would have taken precedence over us! Everything we built—everything our family stood for—would have been handed over to an outsider!"

"She wasn't an outsider!" Julian roared, grabbing the edge of the dining table and heaving it aside with such violent force that crystal glasses and china shattered against the wall. "She was my wife! My family!"

He lunged toward Vivian, grabbing her by the shoulders of her designer jacket, shaking her so violently her diamond earrings flew off across the room. "Where is he, Elena?" Julian cried out without turning around, tears streaming down his face as he held his sister pinned against the wall. "Our baby... did he... did he survive that night?"

Elena stood silent for a long moment, watching the husband who had failed her break down in the wreckage of his family's lies. Her heart ached for his pain, but the protective wall she had built around her son was too strong to dismantle in an instant.

"His name is Leo," Elena said, her voice softening just a fraction. "He is five years old. He has your eyes, Julian. And he is safe... far away from anyone who bears the Vance name."

Julian let go of Vivian, who slumped to the floor, sobbing hysterically as she realized her entire world had just collapsed. He dropped to his knees in front of Elena, burying his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking with gut-wrenching sobs.

"I’m sorry," he wept, grasping the hem of her tuxedo jacket. "I’m so sorry, Elena. I was a fool. I trusted her. Please... please let me see my son. I will give up everything. I will sign away my shares, my name, my life... just let me meet my boy."

Before Elena could answer, the wailing sound of police sirens echoed from the street below, growing louder as dozens of French police vehicles surrounded the Hotel Intercontinental.
