Chapter 9 - The Hidden Camera

To win the case, they needed definitive proof of what happened the night Maya collapsed.
Liam drove back to the old rental house, which was still vacant. He remembered something he had installed months ago—a small, voice-activated pet camera in the kitchen they had used to watch their golden retriever before the baby arrived. It automatically uploaded footage to a cloud server.
Sitting in the empty, echoing house, Liam opened his laptop and logged into the cloud archive. He scrolled back to the date of the incident.
His heart pounded as he clicked play.
The audio was crisp. The video was in color.
There was Maya, visibly swaying on her feet, holding a crying Leo.
“Eleanor, please, I feel dizzy,” Maya’s voice echoed from the laptop speakers. “I need to sit down.”
“Nonsense,” Eleanor’s voice snapped back from the dining room. “The potatoes aren’t mashed yet. Do you want my brother to think you’re incompetent? Hand me the baby and get back to the stove. Stop acting like a martyr.”
The video showed Maya turning, her face pale white, before her eyes rolled back. She crashed to the floor, her leg twisting horribly.

Liam watched, his blood boiling, as Eleanor calmly remained seated. She didn't rush to help. She didn't call 911. She simply picked up a bread roll and continued talking to Uncle David.
Liam slammed the laptop shut. He had the smoking gun. It wasn't just neglect. It was deliberate, malicious endangerment.
